Communicability in Digital Game Interfaces: A Study of League of Legends Using the Communicability Evaluation Method (CEM)

Abstract

Communicability in digital game interfaces is essential to ensure accessible and effective experiences, especially in competitive titles. This work presents partial results of a study that investigates the interface of League of Legends (LoL) through the Communicability Evaluation Method (MAC), focusing on novice players. The methodology adopted was a Systematic Literature Review (2015–2025), conducted in databases such as Google Scholar, ACM Digital Library, Scopus, SpringerLink, and SciELO. The review identified 17 studies, highlighting the relevance of HUDs, tutorials, and clear visual feedback, while also pointing out limitations regarding the use of MAC in competitive digital games. The results reinforce the need for more accessible interfaces and provide the basis for a future experimental stage, which will compare LoL’s official tutorial with a customized version. The aim is to map communicability breakdowns and propose recommendations to improve the experience of new players.
